You’re Drinking the Wrong Kind of Milk

And we’re not talking about soy or almond, either.

When my in-laws moved from India to the United States some 35 years ago, they couldn’t believe the low cost and abundance of our milk—until they developed digestive problems. They’ll now tell you the same thing I’ve heard a lot of immigrants say: American milk will make you sick.

It turns out that they could be onto something. An emerging body of research suggests that many of the 1 in 4 Americans who exhibit symptoms of lactose intolerance could instead be unable to digest A1, a protein most often found in milk from the high-producing Holstein cows favored by American and some European industrial dairies. The A1 protein is much less prevalent in milk from Jersey, Guernsey, and most Asian and African cow breeds, where, instead, the A2 protein predominates. Continue reading

Large-Scale Study Proves High-Fat Diet Promotes Health and Longevity

Story at-a-glance

  • High intakes of healthy fats — especially saturated fats — boost health and longevity. Those who got 35 percent of daily calories from healthy fats were 23 percent less likely to die during the seven-year follow-up than those who only got 10 percent of calories from fat
  • People who got 77 percent of daily calories from carbohydrates were 28 percent more likely to die during the study than those who got 46 percent of calories from carbs
  • Other recent research shows a reduced-sugar diet can lower liver fat by more than 20 percent in just nine days

How B Vitamins Improve Brain Health, Cognition, Psychiatric Problems and Mood Disorders

By Dr. Mercola

It’s well-established that healthy fats such as animal-based omega-3s — especially DHA — are vitally important for your brain health, but other nutrients such as vitamins are also necessary for cognition and the prevention of neurological disease and mental disorders.

Psychiatry typically relies on drugs as a first line of treatment, but even more severe psychiatric problems have been shown to benefit greatly from nutritional interventions.

One nutritional deficiency in particular that has the potential to wreak havoc on your psyche is niacin (vitamin B3). Continue reading

Activate Lemon’s Hidden Cancer and Inflammation Fighting Powers By FREEZING Them

From theheartysoul.com

“A new study has shown for the first time how limonoids, natural compounds present in lemons and other citrus fruit, impede both ER+ and ER- breast cancer cell growth. This sheds new light on the importance of citrus fruit for breast cancer prevention and supports past studies which showed fruit consumption may lower breast cancer risk.(1)”

All kinds of people are saying that the entire lemon should be used with nothing wasted. Not only for the obvious health benefits but also for the amazing taste!

How?

Simple, take an ORGANIC lemon, wash it, and then put it in the freezer. Once it is frozen you get whatever is necessary to grate or shred the whole lemon without even peeling it first. Or you can make lemon cubes! To do this, simply blend the lemon peel and all and pour it into an ice cube tray.

Then sprinkle it on your salad, ice cream, soup, cereals, noodles, spaghetti sauce, or whatever. No holds barred. What you will experience is that whatever you sprinkle it on will take on a taste you may never have experienced before. Continue reading

Scientific Links Between Processed Foods and Depression

By Dr. Joseph Mercola

Research shows that the food you eat can have a profound effect on your mental health. So, regardless of your mental health problems, the importance of addressing your diet simply cannot be overstated.

In a very real sense, you have two brains — one in your head, and one in your gut. Both are created from the same tissue during fetal development, and they’re connected via your vagus nerve, the tenth cranial nerve that runs from your brain stem to your abdomen.  It is now well established that the vagus nerve is the primary route your gut bacteria use to transmit information to your brain, which helps explain why mental health appears to be so intricately connected to your gut microbiome 1 — the bacteria and other microbes living in your gut. Tired of being called a nut job by the mainstream media?

NaturalNews) The mainstream media can’t figure out why it keeps losing readers and viewers. Maybe it’s because they keep calling health-conscious consumers “whackos” and “kooks.” In their latest example of alienating readers, mainstream media outlets like USA Today, Washington Post, Forbes.com and the New York Times have resorted to condemning all health-conscious consumers as nut jobs and kooks and conspiracy theorists… all because they want to avoid fluoride, pesticides, toxic heavy metals or GMOs. Antibiotic Resistance Will Kill 300 Million People by 2050

By Dr. Mercola

Three problems with the US food supply that is making food a source of disease rather than optimal health include: the way our food is raised; the way it’s processed; and the routine use of hazardous drugs and chemicals.

The United States is one of the few countries in the world that produces and processes food in a way that defies both science and common sense.

As noted in the featured TED lecture, 86 percent of every dollar you spend at the grocery store goes toward paying for processing and marketing of the food. A mere 14 percent goes to the farmer that actually grows the food ingredients in question.

This alone should tell you that that inexpensive processed food item you buy is hardly a bargain. Not only are you getting very little real food, as there are so many fillers and additives tossed in, you’re also getting very little in terms of healthy nutrition.

This is important, as your body is not designed to process and thrive on a base of disease causing ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Story at-a-glance

  • Bone broth has a long history of medicinal use. Traditionally, it has been associated with gut healing, and many modern diseases appear to be rooted in gut dysfunction
  • Digestive problems and joint problems in particular can be successfully addressed using bone broth, but it’s really a foundational component of a healing diet regardless of what ails you

Paleo and Weston Price Diets Beat the SAD Diet for Nutrition

Tuesday, April 15, 2014                 by: Michelle Goldstein

(NaturalNews) Several diets compete for followers in the holistic medicine world. There are devotees of vegan, vegetarian, Paleo, primal, raw primal, fruitarians and Weston Price. The Paleo and Weston Price Diet are two popular and important real food movements that share primary values, but also diverge in significant areas. Both are arguably far superior to the SAD or standard American diet followed by most Americans. Continue reading
