1)           Intra Oral/TMJ Clinical Treatment Workshop

                       Techniques and Learning Strategies            January 23-24, 2009

Deepen your understanding and experience of Intra Oral/TMJ clinical massage work and its importance in the massage profession.  Learn a comprehensive approach designed to prepare therapists to become more effective and confident in their treatment options/outcomes.  No matter what your skill level, you will benefit from the scope, content, and immediate application of this comprehensive and thorough work: from musculoskeletal preparation to anatomy to hands-on treatment.  This 16 hour workshop will validate the efficacy of TMJ work for clinical therapists dealing with patients with TMJ pain, swallowing difficulties, hearing deficits, face and eye pain, headaches, neck/shoulder pain, and other jaw and cranial dysfunctions. 

AMTA and NCBTMB (Category A) - 16 CEU’s.  As required to apply for WA State endorsement, this 16 hour class includes intra oral and cranial massage techniques; cranial anatomy; physiology; kinesiology; pathology and contraindications; hygienic practices; safety and sanitation.

 Learn:

  • Optimum posture and correct biomechanical movement patterns that influence the TM Joint
  • The preparation and techniques for working with the soft tissue and cranial bones;
  • Palpation skills to identify bony landmarks and specific muscles used in treatment routines;
  • Specific massage rehabilitation techniques for the most common TMJ problems;
  • Contraindications, hygienic practices, safety and sanitation regarding this work

Cost/Requirements:  $350 early registration fee when full payment is received by October 6; $395 after, space allowing. There is a $50 non-refundable administration fee and all deposits are non-refundable one week prior.  Payment by check, VISA, Mastercard, or money order. Confirmation with directions will be sent upon receipt of deposit.  Bring massage table and suitable loose-fitting attire.  No oil necessary.

LEIF GRUNSETH, LMP, CNMT, ATC, teaches Medical Massage and Sports Massage statewide and nationally, bringing a unique style to his clinical presentations. Known for his passion, humor, and enthusiasm in teaching, he gives ample quantities of usable information and techniques for practitioners to take home.   He  has an extensive research background in nutrition and diet and is currently in private practice in Bellevue, Washington.

 STEVEN TOLZMANN, LMP, CNMT, ART, has a highly successful Seattle practice treating chronic pain and dysfunction.  He is Certified in St. John NMT, Active Release Technique (ART), and Aston Therapeutics. His impressive clinical background creates a teaching style that is detailed and insightful, and he regularly presents NCBTMB and Washington State approved courses, including “Find It First - The Shoulder” and “Medical Massage Billing: Laying the Foundation.

     Learn unique techniques for low back pain, menstrual problems, calf injuries, sciatica, headaches, shoulder/neck injuries, and more. These skills create immediate and lasting results through integration of myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, Russian Therapy, somatic movement re-education, and joint mobilization techniques.  

     These short treatment protocols consistently attain the highest level of pain relief in the least amount of time and are easily integrated into a fluid and effective routine no matter what your present practice. Enhance palpatory skills and experience the importance of proper structure and movement in regaining and maintaining optimal health. AMTA and NCBTMB  - 16 CEU’s.

       LEIF GRUNSETH has been a leader in the field of Sports Massage statewide and nationally for twenty years. He was the founder/director of the Washington Sports Massage Team (WSMT), established in 1987, which became the model for many of the western states Sports Massage teams.  

       In 1990, the AMTA awarded him the national Meritorious Award for his contributions to the field of Sports Massage. His experience includes working as a Sports Massage Therapist at such prestigious international events as the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis, the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.  He was Coordinator for all Sports Massage activities at the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle and from 1991-93 he worked as a Sports Massage Therapist for the Seattle SuperSonics (NBA).  

       In 1998, he became a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)  to augment his education in injury assessment and treatment.  He also has an extensive research background in nutrition and diet which he shares readily with clients and students.  He is currently in private practice in Bellevue, Washington dealing with automobile, athletic, and home injury treatment but continues to teach Sports Massage and Medical Massage workshops statewide and nationally. 

       He is a sought-after speaker/presenter, combining 40 years experience not only in the health field but in athletics as an athlete, coach, referee, Sports Massage Therapist, athletic trainer and as an assistant wrestling coach at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Washington.  Leif brings passion, humor, and enthusiasm to his workshops demonstrating highly successful techniques taught for maximum effect in this mostly hands-on weekend - a weekend not to miss!
